Sarah has worked for over 25 years as a professional musician, performing across the Southeast and gaining extensive experience in both the classical and pop worlds. She began playing the violin at age 12 and became a working professional within 3 years. Sarah attended the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, the North Carolina School of the Arts, and the University of Tennessee, where she performed in a masterclass for Anne Akiko Meyers.

​She is a current member of five professional orchestras across three states, including the Symphony of the Mountains and the Johnson City Symphony in Tennessee, the Hendersonville Symphony and the Brevard Philharmonic in North Carolina, and the Spartanburg Philharmonic in South Carolina.

Additionally, she is a former member of the Asheville Symphony, and has also previously performed with the Western Piedmont Symphony, the South Carolina Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra Augusta in Georgia. She can sometimes be found on stage with the Oak Ridge Symphony (TN), with community orchestras in the Asheville/Hendersonville area, or performing as a wedding musician as she has done since 1997.

Sarah also enjoyed many years as a pop musician performing, recording, and touring with several bands, both as violinist and vocalist. As a founding member of Shortwave Society, a band based in Knoxville once memorably described in Metro Pulse as “orchestral electro-pop,” she was a violinist/vocalist/percussionist/flautist/violist, toured the eastern US extensively, recorded two full-length albums and an EP, opened for artists such as Béla Fleck and Ben Sollee, and performed at many festivals including South by Southwest, the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, Big Ears Festival, and Sled Island Music Festival in Canada. As a violinist performing with stephaniesĭd, a much-beloved Asheville-based band, she recorded two albums and performed in many shows, including at ArtsMarket in Durham, as well as the band’s final show in May 2016 at the Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville. Sarah also made many guest appearances through the years as a violinist, singer, and percussionist with a number of other bands in Knoxville. ​

Her professional experience is rounded out by eight years as a violinist with Norwegian Wood, a Knoxville-based string quartet devoted to the music of the Beatles, concurrent with two years spent working as a radio announcer at an NPR affiliate station, and a summer with a festival orchestra in Arkansas recording the complete orchestral works of Gottschalk for an album on the Naxos label. These days, when she’s not travelling and performing as an orchestral or wedding musician, Sarah teaches private violin lessons in Bristol TN and is a highly passionate Nashville Predators fan.
